<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As of late 2025 and moving into 2026, the New Zealand construction industry has entered a new era of energy efficiency. The days of simply &#8220;ticking a box&#8221; for window compliance are over.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">With the recent release of the <a href="https://www.building.govt.nz/assets/Uploads/building-code-compliance/h1-energy-efficiency/asvm/h1-energy-efficiency-as1-sixth-edition.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">H1/AS1 Sixth Edition</a>, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has fundamentally changed how we calculate home performance. For homeowners, builders, and architects, this means the thermal performance of the entire window unit (not just the glass) is now under the microscope.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Big Change: The &#8220;Schedule Method&#8221; is Gone</h2>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The most significant update in the 2026 transition is the <a href="https://www.building.govt.nz/about-building-performance/all-news-and-updates/increasing-the-flexibility-of-h1-energy-efficiency" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">removal of the Schedule Method</a> as a &#8220;deemed to comply&#8221; pathway.</p>
